Travel Around the World without Leaving the BHS Auditorium!
-- Briarcliff High School to perform a hilarious adaption of Around the World in 80 Days --
Briarcliff, Nov 1, 2016 – Students from Briarcliff High School are preparing for a lively performance of Around the World in 80 Days, Jules Vernes’ exciting and hilarious adventure story, adapted by Mark Brown. The plot’s many unexpected twists and turns will keep audience members of all ages entertained, amused, and mesmerized.
Join Phileas Fogg and his trusty manservant and they try to win an audacious bet – that they can circumvent the globe in 80 days. His adventures take him from London to India to Hong Kong to San Francisco and back to London, pursued by a wily and determined Scotland Yard detective, making friends and enemies, and even finding love along the way.
Around the World in 80 Days will be performed in BHS’s black box theater setting, where the audience is actually seated on the stage, closely surrounding the actors on three sides.
Students have been creatively challenged to recreate global settings in the small space – they have found ways to ride elephants, survive raging typhoons, ride on runaway trains, serve high tea, and travel all seven continents and back again without leaving the stage, with cast members transforming into multiple characters along the way.
“Phileas Fogg carefully planned his journey because he wanted to be sure he would win his wager, but unexpected obstacles keep popping up as he travels,” said director Ian Driver. “Fogg has to continually adapt to reach his destination on time, just as we, as a theatre company, have had to improvise to create our production – and just as the students have to do each day in school.”
The performances will take place in the Frances G. Wills Auditorium at Briarcliff High School on November 18, 19, and 20 (times below).
Friday, November 18 at 7:30pm
Saturday, November 19 at 2:30 and 7:30pm
Sunday, November 20 at 2:30pm
This is one adventure you definitely don’t want to miss!
